  1. The day of my return I walked in to hear that one of the workers will be retiring and that my boss will have to be transfered to sarasota county some time in april. ALso i came to hear that in december both the judges and the state attorneys rotate and had to go to a different county. But besides all that excitement it was an easy day of mail and tickets.

  2. Later that week Armon one of the criminal clerks has to (every once and a while switch jobs) with a civil clerk Alex. So I tryed to act as a helper for him since teaching helps you question what you yourself do. I did not get that chance to sit in the court room with armon that week however Alex and him would like me to see and DOR case with them.

  3. Second week my first day it happened to be the new judges birthday and we had cake I got to sit with the clerks in court and see how this new judge works. She is alot more liberal in her punishments and enjoys having a conversation with the defendants. Me and Mrs. Jackie are waiting for December for a new switch already.

  4. Friday that week the clerks office didnt have anything for me to do so I got to go downstairs and spend the day with the state attorneys. The new attorney was sick that day so one of the old attorneys were there that day. He and I went over some cases and he showed me how he picks who to prosecute what he looks at in making bargins and what police look at when looking up your drivers record( DAVID).

  7. Fourth week the clerks are trying to make up the loss of margetta and have one of there "floater" or "jack of all trades" clerks take her spot. However there means more mail and tickets to do. So this week looks sorta depressing.

  8. I found out this week that apparently fridays are typically really slow so after the mail was finished i got to go and shadow the attorneys again. However they didnt have much to do either. One of the old attorneys are still waiting on his shift however he didnt have anything and was reading game reviews, and sharing his story of how he proved that one of the witnesses didnt have a bad back by kicking there water bottle. However i got to meet the new attorney and we went over some cases and a motion to suppress.

  9. After the small break of vacation due to fcat, i reterned to a day of tickets and mail. However i got to learn some of the cryptic codes of the officers. Apparently the square root of 2 means florida and IIL means silver. I also got an opportunity to listen to one of the cases that the office has to look forward to where it starts has a civil case and indirectly is involved in a criminal case as well, similar to where a crime can be both a civil infraction and a criminal.

  10. Yesterday I got to sit in on what i would call business court. This court was mainly about people who owe money to a company and are unable to pay at this time. The company can then file an affadavid to bring the defendant to court and testify that they do not have the money to pay and have to start a payment plan with the court of a very small amount (min. 25) and see if they can make an agreement.

  11. After the break I got to go and watch court for what was suppose to be a boring session of motions. However we had one defendant curse out the Judge as well as the baliffs. We had a defendant who was tased during his criminal act, and before I left we had a women who's whole defense was she was overdosed on medication due to a doctors negligence .

  12. Later on in the week I have found out that we are losing 3 more clerks later on within the next month, including our top clerk who they all answer to. After this news I got to sit in the courtroom again, this time they did civil backruptcy cases. These attorney's where alot better at their jobs then the last business court attorneys.

  13. With the loss of staff the clerks office has been switching around some people. Mrs. Rae, who was a ticket clerk, is now a criminal court clerk and Mrs. Diane, the old other criminal court clerk, is now in recording. I also have gained a new responsiblity at the office. I now have to inspect documents before they are recorded electronically. This process I have to check case numbers, names, docket codes, number of pages, and if I need to Redact any information that should be protected.

  14. Another member of our staff team left last friday and we now have 2 new members who came down from north county to fill in the missing positions. Out of habit I haven't introduced myself and stick to shadowing those who I am accustomed to. However later this week I am hoping to be able to sit with Armon with a DOR case. I have not seen one of these and am told I should since child support is something I have shadowed more then once. Today however I got to set in business court where more depressing cases of bankrupty have spured. Companies like JC Pennies, lowes, and banks are all owed money and the tax payers are getting the punishment. Prior to the sit in at court Armon was teaching me alittle more about the DOR and one way families cheat the system using child support.

  15. Friday was a fairly straight forward day. I finished up the mail that needed to be sent out, and continued working on the new responsibility. The program features looking over documents as high as 200 pages and making sure there isnt any information needed to be blured out. Today i had the most amount of pages within one document, 106

  16. On Wednesday we had criminal court. The court session was verly normal everything was going as it should and then our overly liberal judge noticed a dragonfly stuck in a spiderweb. The first thing to understand is this judge is the overly talkative type, who looks for rainbows and sunshine in all accounts, this definitly shows in her final decisions of punishments. So when she say a dragonfly trying to get out of the web she hurried to send the baliff to try to free it. 15 seconds later the clerk jumps because suddenly a newspaper is thrown at the window in attempts to get the dragonfly free. We then spent 15 mins trying to get this dragonfly free. One of our helpers was even a baseball pitcher and kept hitting the dragonfly till he put the newspaper on the roof.

  17. My second day from that event was not as exciting, although i did learn how to enter in another type of citation, one of a more serious crime, it was similar to entering the current citations i already know how to do.

  18. Tuesday I got to sit in on a child support case, which is rare. This was a very sad case where the mother who is suppose to be paying the child support is unable because of bipolar issues. Heart strings where pulled in till after the case was over the mother started gloating that she "won". My hand happened to slip over the recording button when that happened.

  21. On the second to last day I sat in court and viewed the other attorney who switched with Mr. Slack. This court session wasn't as interesting as the day of the dragonfly it was very formal.
