The first week in internship class was a breeze. Since we lost about 50 students the classroom remained quiet and peaceful. I can already tell this semester will be a lot easier than last semester since i have prior experience with the class.
My first day back interning was definately a refresher. I had to get back into my prescription filling groove considering there were about a million patients that day. I had probably a stack of 100 prescriptions to fill and more kept coming out of the printer. At first I kept making simple and small mistakes but I got over them and did my work as efficiently as possible. I missed how funny Chase was and I am glad I am back (:
Last Thursday, I went to my internship which was extremley busy. This week, all generics were on sale which gave the pharmacy a lot of business. For every prescription that I filled, I had to look up the drug to see if it matched up with any generics. This process slowed down me filling up prescriptions. It started getting stressful because a lot of patients were coming in and waiting for their medicine. If a prescription comes out and says "WAITING" on it, than that means there is a patient currently waiting and to fill the prescription right away.
Today at my internship, I learned that Pharmacy might not be something I want to do. Although it pays extremely well, it seems to be too much of a routinely job. I am a person that is up for adventure and something new. For now, Pharmacy will be my back up plan if i don't figure anything else out.
One day when I was interning, it was really slow so one of the pharmacists decided to go out and get lunch for all of us. It was a relaxing and easy day. All we did was sit around and talk about life and also things about school and pharmacy. I learned many new things about the careers within Pharmacy and how to go about getting into them. I realized I have to explore what career I am exactly looking for. Right now it is all up in the air.
When it was slow again another day at internship, I filled as many prescriptions I could and studied note cards on the abreviations for different things within pharmacy, the different types of drugs and their generics, and measurements within Pharmacy. Pretty much every drug has it's own generic which is a drug about 99% the same as the original one just less expensive and made by a cheaper brand. Although it is cheaper with a different name, it does the same thing. Pharmacists help patients as much as they can to afford their medicine and make sure their insurance company will cover as much of the expense as it can. By doing this, for example, Pharmacists will recommend using the generic of a specific drug for a less expense.
