Cody Levon - North Port Arts Center

22 comments:

  1. Art Center again.

They want to put me in the March edition of the North Port Magazine.

From February 27th to April 15th I will have an invitational at the Art Center.

But I am honestly kind of iffy about it, because I have just been feeling SO burnt out about art lately.
And I really don't want to have to go through the entire process of framing everything.

    Ugh.

  2. I really haven't been able to do much at the center except do a few prints.

Which I have been doing all week.

We got two done yesterday, and another two on Monday.

  3. Thursday I was able to write up my artist statement for the North Port Magazine.

Hopefully, they don't edit it too much, and that they really keep my style of language in the article.

    We'll see come March.

  4. Monday, I printed out another painting.
One of the same that we have already printed.
But while trying to cut and matte it, it somehow was ruined.

Other than that, I just helped to send out a few e-mails.

Oh, and my mom stopped by to tell me hello,

    ...

Even though I see her at home everyday...

I guess that moms will forever be moms...

    Lookout Mrs. Del Castillo.
That will be you soon enough.

  5. This past Thursday I don't really remember to well honestly.
I reprinted something, by myself for once.

I also wrote out a ton of e-mails.
    And printed out some forms.

    The usual.

  6. Yesterday started off with meeting a city official. Surprisingly, he already knew who I was, and had seen some of my work at the City Hall show.
I'm kind of a big deal.

Also, I answered the phone several times, helping out everyone to the best of my ability.
    Wrote up two workshop sheets.

Sent a few messages here and there.
Printed out a test image for a lady's painting reproduction.

    Printed out a millon things.
    Made hanging files.
Convinced the Director to take a break for once.

Oh, and the Art Center now has their own blog even.

PS - I'm on their website:

  8. Yesterday we moved out all of the Christmas stuff to be put in the outside cargo shed.

I have still have yet to frame my artwork...

Which is terrible, because it needs to be done by Saturday...

(Mrs. DelCastillo, come see my show sometime next month!)

  9. On Saturday I came in and helped with the gallery hanging. I also had my own work to hang, so they completely let me have some free-roam with that one, and let me handle all of my own placements and everything.
    Which was nice of them.

The reception of my show is this Saturday from 4pm - 6pm. But my work will be hanging until the 5th of April.

Right at the 8th of April begins the Senior Showcase. So I will have a back to back showing of my work.

    (Niiiiice)

  10. I still can't believe you invited Heather to the art show extravaganza...

    ReplyDelete
  11. Alright, first of all, she invited herself.

    And second of all.
The extent of my interning yesterday involved, but was not limited to helping the Art Director make a facebook account.

I also took the time to help her realize the difference between: blogspot, twitter, and facebook.

    (Come to my show)

  12. Man, I gotta tell yah.
    People love me hear.

With my work hanging right now, the praises have just been pouring in.
Literally, everytime I walk in, people have some generous and totally deserving compliment for me.

I'm thinking about proposing the idea of changing the name of this place to, "The Cody LeVon Harborage of Pristine Art."

I think it would draw in more of a crowd...
At least, the kind of crowd I want to see around here.

  13. Last Thursday I came in and helped around with some stuff.

And then later, we started the High School Open Studio session. Which now runs every Thursday from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.

It basically provides art students with an almost mock-classroom environment, where they can work on art work, use the art center's supplies, and just have an open space to work alternative to their home.

    It wasn't too bad either.
There was only five people there.
But that's probably because the word didn't really get out that I was going to be there.

I guess that I'll just have to start telling people to expect me there every week.
Then the public will rush in like crazy.

"If you tell them, they will come"

  14. I'm gonna be honest, I really having been doing too much around the Art Center lately.
It seems as though my intelligence and skills have been more computer-oriented lately.

    Sending out e-mails and such.

Because they have a few more volunteers there now, and also, AARP has started a program to re-introduce senior citizens into the workforce.
So this lady comes in like, 20 hours a week now, and does a lot of stuff that I usually had to do.

And she leaves about around the time I get there.
So all that there is left for me to do, is creating documents and sending e-mails and stuff.

    Which is awesome.
Because I can go on Facebook.

  15. Wow, it's been a while since I've written on here. I guess that the latest and greatest thing that I've been a part of here has been the Open Studio session that we have for High Schoolers.
Everyone that goes really enjoys it, and last week, we got pizza.

Also, we started having it Tuesday nights as well.

  16. There's this really wealthy lady who comes to the Art Center all the time. She's on the board, and she also takes a lot of classes here.
But two weeks ago, she asked the students working in the Open Studio what they would possibly want to have to use for art.
Needless to say, she ended up donating a lot of paint and materials for us to use.

She gave ME a "french easel" and some oil paints, which is essentially, one of the coolest things I own now.

If you want to know what it is, then I suggest you come to my humble domain to feast your eyes upon my new amazing contraption.

Or, you can just go to this website called Google.

  17. Let me tell you something, right here, right now.
I am really tired of going to my internship.
Don't get me wrong, I love everyone there.
Just, I'm beginning to feel like a "big fish in a small pond." And not to sound cocky or anything.
But now that they have that lady working there, there's really not much of a need for me anymore.
And on top of that, everything is really slow paced there.
I mean, yesterday, I actually fell asleep for a short amount of time, and I don't think anyone noticed.

I just think that my energy and brilliance could be used for more beneficial and important things.

Which, I'm sure sounds terrible; but I'm just being honest.
I feel like my time has come and gone there. Like, I am Mary Poppins; and once I've done my thing, it's time to move on somewhere else.

Speaking of which, how is Julie Andrews doing?
I heard a while ago that she had throat cancer or something. If so, that's really sad.
Her voice was amazing in The Sound of Music.

    Man... Those mountains.
I definitely want to go visit the Alps one day. Maybe after I graduate, and go into the Peace Corsp; I would probably be able to travel then.
And go to like: Italy, and Egypt, and New Zealand, and other really interesting places.

I want to do that hike, where you see all of that stuff that was in the Lord of the Rings movie.
I still can't believe that Peter Jackson and his crew actually built all of those houses and everything. That's amazing.

    Man...
I really need to get a job or something doing that.
    Or just a job period...

  18. Yesterday we had to move the Art Center's external storage unit from it's traditional spot on our property. Apparently, the jerk neighbors, known to the public as "The North Port Fire Station" had, and I literally quote, "gotten tired of looking at it."
Now excuse me, but what the hell does that even have to do with anything?!
It's a small, and I mean small, trailer on the side of OUR building, and OUR lot.
I mean, we don't tell them what we don't like about their new crappy arrangement.
The most ridiculous thing is though, is that, the only windows located on THAT side of their building, has nothing behind it. That's right, the window viewing our land has nobody in there. No office, no nothing.

So, this other guy from the art center had to relocated it. And I mean it took forever; this guy will definitely never be a truck driver.
He must have take about a good twenty minutes to do a two minute job.
He kept backing up and redriving in the exact same spots.

    But ugh, anyway.
    We finally got it moved.

But I'm seriously thinking about suggesting to them that they should repaint their walls, because looking at it "makes me want to vomit" or something.

    The nerve of some people...
Sheesh, they get the slightest amount of power, and it just rushes to their heads.

  19. The Art Center offered me this paperwork to be paid for my services there; not through them, but through the city.
The application is due by June 1st, and my sponsor keeps urging me to fill it out.

The program pays for five weeks of work at a non-profit organization, Carol, my sponsor would be overseeing my hours and everything. And it pays about $8.00 an hour.

And as much of a sweet deal as that sounds, I'm really not sure about it. I mean, yeah, I could use the money, and they like me there.

But once again, this all comes back to me feeling like I should be off doing bigger and better things than sitting there nearly everyday.

On top of that, the program is only applicable to people who live within Sarasota County; and because of my recent move to Englewood, I do not think that I would be accepted.

  20. Last time I was in the Art Center, I told Carol that that was the last time I was coming in to intern.
I now have accumulated over a year of dedication there. From March of last year to just this past week.

I heard that you if you have 75 hours of community service that you can recieve college credit for it. But I wouldn't really know where to get any of that.

Plus, how that would transfer into anything confuses me.

Either way, I suppose that it will look good on my updated resume.
"Over a year of volunteer based work at a Non-profit organization."

  21. I'm gonna be honest, I haven't gone to Open Studio in like a week and a half now.
I don't think that anyone has really.

Ever since the AP Exams finished up, everyone's just been takin' it easy.

Especially me; I am just incredibly burnt out from art right now. At least, for the time being.
I don't think that I can ever be tired of creating.
I just need a break for a little while; until I become re-inspired and feel something new and fresh come into my life.

Which will hopefully be soon, and come along with graduating high school.
