Describe one ethical issue within your career of interest.

  1. Ah, first one to comment.
This is interesting to think about, because if anything, art is used to exploit and tackle some of the most pressing forms of ethical issues.
So it is hard to determine whether or not being an artist has its own obstacles.

Usually, creating art is an act of liberating and crying out against the political, ethical, environmental, racial, and other problems that the human race is forced to handle.

So if anything the only ethical issue with my career of interest would not necessarily be at the fault of the artist, but rather, the viewers and audience.
Those who are presented with such questions and radical representations and simply ignore what is right in front of them; those who are too stubborn to shift the current of their outlook or responses to that of a better conductivity.

Artists are more or less the critics of life.
And other people are the critics of these critics.
And artists in turn criticize the lives of their critics.

The flaw with this is this is that the vicious cycle solves nothing as long as there are those who remain unwilling to stop and think.

  2. Possibly one of the only ethical issues in my choice of career 'at the moment' would be the use of scarce resources. As we know, the depletion of metals, minerals, and water has increased ever since our society has shifted into the industrial, technological aspect of advancement. It takes material to make material, and most of the material used can not be made back or recreated. That is why gold and silver ores are valuable during this time because of how limited this source really is. Metals used to make material such as machines will never stop and it is difficult to predict when we will actually use all of the sources. Even though we know it is limited, we still do/use it anyways. It's how the imbalance of life is. We use, use use, and eventually things will disappear, such as the extinct organisms so far. Nothing lasts forever, and that is one ethical issue of my technological career choice. There are many other ethical issues, but most are unknown at this time; difficult to predict.

  3. An ethical issue that may occur within my career of interest is that for the career of nursing it is vital to keep the patient's condition "secret" until the doctor feels it's okay to tell them. I have encountered this at the hospital I interned at. A man was diagnosed with "something" and the nurse could not tell the patient until the doctor gave permission. It was life threatening and what's worse is when they assign a patient an expected number of days left to live. I think everyone should know right away if they are going to die but I guess working in a hospital there must be order, control, and formality instead of freaking the patient out and blurting things but to rather sit down with the patient and the family to discuss the situation.

  4. An ethical issue with my career choice would be if a kid starts to do bad or he/she is failing my class, letting the parents know before it gets to late. Even know it will be hard having to tell a parent their child is struggling, it will be much better for them to know sooner, maybe they can fix or find out why their child is strugglign and we could make it better before it gets worse. By telling them it may have consquences, the parents may not like you afterwards, they may blame you for their child struggling but it would be better for them to know sooner then later because then it would be the teacher's fault for waiting and not telling the parents.

  5. In a career as a veterinarian, an ethical issue would be euthanasia. Sometimes if an animal should be put to sleep but is being kept alive by medicines and surgeries by choice of the owner, you cant exactly tell them "your dog should be put to sleep" Another example would be if someone's dog gets hit by a car and they want to euthanize it because they cant afford to treat their animal, you have to do what they ask. Even if you don't agree. Euthanasia is a very sensitive subject in the veterinary field this is why i think it is an ethical issue.

  6. An ethical issue with my career choice is that with being an accountant or stock broker I have to let my clients know when something is going to be bad, whjen stocks look like they are going to crash or anything close to thaqt area. I have to be able to be honest with them and share with them what is going on so that they do not become bankrupt and believe it all on me and i lose my business because of a bad choice.

  7. An ethical issue in my field would have to be stealing. A lot of students in the bistro will steal food from the kitchen and the other students won't tell the chef that the food has been stolen because then they don't want to look like a snitch. Waiters in the restuarant business will, once in a blue moon, "mess up" their tip and end up with ten times the amount they were supposed to recieve.

  8. An ethical issue dealing with my career would be the consultations with the patient and Pharmacist, dealing with insurance companies, and providing the right kind of medicine to the patients. Making sure that the patients receive the right kind of medicine is crucial. If given the wrong kind, it can put a persons life in jeopardy. That is why paying attention and knowing what to do is a key aspect of being a Pharmacist.

  9. being a police officer, an ethical issue with me would be weither or not to charge someone for an additional crime that they did in jail. If i am a road cop, i would have to decide weither or not to give someone a ticket depending on the severity of the infraction.

  10. My future career is based on ethical issues. However what would probably be the most frequent issue I would have to deal with is if I should offer a criminal a plea bargain or not and if I do what should it be?

  11. the main ethical issues with my career would be stealing drugs from the pharmacy and sale them with others for extra money. Also explaining to others about patients "secrets" and sicknesses and to give patients wrong medication that can make you lose your licence.

  12. Teaching does not have its many issues, in my opinion, besides the obvious ones. A main issue that I see would be language. Schools are so diverse now these days that it may become difficult to teach certain students who may have a hard time speaking the language or the other way around, a teacher not being able to communicate with him/her.
That is the biggest issue I have with the elementaary students. There is a little boy who is Spanish and he has a hard time speaking both laguages, so I have to help him understand the English meanings.

  13. Pharmacists are commonly in a position in which there is a conflict between patient's rights for informed consent and self-governance and the potential negative consequences to the patient of full disclosure of information regarding adverse effects of medications. For example, a physician may not desire that a patient be informed of the side effects from chemotherapy because of traditional paternalistic attitude that this information may harm the patient by his or her refusal to take a drug with certain side effects. I’m going to deal with drugs and private information so I’m going to have to be extra careful to give the right prescriptions.

  14. The largest ethical concern I may encounter in my career of marine biology is determining what is best for not just one species or one group of people or even one ecosystem but for the planet as a whole. For example, a tribal community living in the Amazon relies on a certain type of river fish for their survival. We cannot allow commercial fisher men to take advantage of this resource because it will deplete the population of fish to near extinction. Also living in this area is a rare water bird that heavily relies on the fish population. The question is: do we allow the tribal community to use the fish and not for commercial purposes; how do we intervene and to what extent? When undertaking a career as a marine biologist, one may be biased or near sighted.

  15. One ethical issue that I have to deal with in the medical world is the big issue on abortion. This has been an issue that we still deal with in politics. There is no right answer to this because many people have different opinions on it. Some doctors strongly believe in pro-choice while others believe in being pro-life. This issue I believe will never be solved.

  16. An example of an ethical issue with being a Pharmacist would be making sure your patient is getting the right medication and you, as the pharmacist, are telling them the right information about the drug they're receiving. A lot of problems can occur through mistakes like those and it can be life threatening.

  17. An ethical issue I might face when being a police officer is arresting someone when I might not feel the need to. One of the officers I was paired with when I was doing my internship , told me that one time he had to arrest a mother who stole baby food from walmart to feed her child. I would have found it very hard to arrest her when she was doing it for her little baby. I more then likey would have let her go , because in my eyes she wasnt stealing something like makeup or whatever like a teenager. She took something to keep her child fed.

  18. A career in most fields of science deal with some form of ethics especially listening to and being respectful of other peoples opinions. Science is a field that is often open to various interpretations, in regards to the formation of theories and experiments. In my career field, or rather at my internship, there are multiple protocols for surveying tortoises, scrub jays, and vegetation, and everyone has a way that they think it is better or more effective. I want to work in a zoo and some individuals consider zoos in themselves unethical because it requires keeping animals in captivity and that they do not have freedom. I used to think it was sad to see animals in captivity but it is usually for the preservation of a species or rescue of an individual organism.

  19. An ethical issue that I would probably have in my career would be working together as a team and listening to what the peoples opinions are. Such as the sarasota county fair, 4-H has many different stations set up there, one where the kids described stuff such as art, foods, photography ect... People walk in and it is meant to be just a simple meet and greet. They listen to the peoples comment on the title and then 4-H explains the reasoning to it.

  20. Man I wish I commented first and not twentieth. Oh well.

I think some issues in my career would be not portraying people or events in negative and derogatory ways. In film, important issues are addressed and put into the spotlight. Sure there are always going to be people who will take something the wrong way, but you have to work hard to treat every issue fairly, unless of course you are trying to show your opinion on an issue, which in that case you should do so delicately.

  21. My career is based on ethics. Being an attorney, you often have to make decisions that concern ethics. If you are a public defender, you may have to defend people who you know are guilty. If you are a prosecutor, you may have to prove an innocent person guilty. In the field of politics, the people who elect you are depending on you to represent them. By taking advantage of that, and instead promoting your own ideas rather than that of the people, you are making an unethical decision. Instead, an ethical choice could be to think of the people you are representing and the things that they would want.

  22. Some ethical issues with my career could be a result of how people avoid the regulations that are put on the computers. Some kids may by-pass the restrictions and go to sites that aren't permitted or change settings on the computer that we have to later go back and fix. Just about nearly anything that is done to the computer or other stuff that we have to take time to fix because of childish acts.
