Do you think ads have a good or a bad influence on your generation? Explain your reasoning.

  1. Ads have a bad influence on my generation. They claim in a way to make our lives better if we purchase materialistic things. The advertisers also aren't looking for a way to present their items to sell to us but thinking of the best way to "make us or force us" into buying something we don't need that may not be of the best quality. C'mon, have you ever bought something that dissappointed you and you felt like you wasted money? Ads can be misleading but they can present the item you are to purchase with its competition so you can make the decision which one to buy.

  2. Advertisements are this generation's serpent in the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
You are ignorant, you don't know what the product is about.
They make you think that everything is cool and alright; that everything is okay.
And then, bam, you find out you are naked and having nothing, and feel guilty and foolish.
And God is just really, really disappointed with you.

  3. advertisement can have both a good or bad effect on people depending on the ad. our generation is easily influenced especially when stuf like alcohol and tobacco products are advertised. They think that because they see it in the ad, that its the cool thing to do. They never tell you everything you need to know.

  4. I think ads can have both a negative and positive effect. It all depends on what is being advertised. With alcohol and tobacco commercials it aims toward our generation and can get people interested in it because we have no idea what its about. We just think it's the cool thing to do. But when it's those commercials who tell you to talk to someone if we need help and stuff it can show someone out there cares and it's a positive effect on us.

    - I think ads have a great influence on my generation. They have positive and negative influences. Postive influences would be the ads for colleges , pets , and other things. But they do have ads that have a negative effect. For example the new Bud Light commercial where they create a human bridge , is a negative influence because it portrays , their beer is so good , people will do anything to get one sip. So it really does depend on the ad itself , and what they are selling.

  6. I think for the most part Ads have a bad influence on my generation. Alot of Ads out their are targeted for things to fix about you like hair, body, looks, I think this gives younger generations the idea that we need to fix things about us to be accepted in the world. This is what makes people go crazy with plastic surgery and loosing weight. If their were more postive Ads to balance out the negitvie they would have a more postive influence on us.

  7. It really depends on the ad. I regards to marketing adds they are generally negative. They want you to buy their product and they will tell you anything to get you to do so. On the other hand there are recent ads against drugs, alcohol, etc. that are meant to have a positive influence.I would say that they are a negative influence because there are more marketing ads for goods then for life styles.

  8. I beleive on ads have a bad influence on my generation and negative effect. Many people go crazy for Proactive, weight lose and plastic surgery. I don't beleive on proactive because my best friend have been used this product for the past years nothing have change. Also plastic surgery is the worst ads that people focus on for a better look.

  9. I think that ads have a negative influence on todays generation. Today, advertisements do whatever they can to attract the attention of viewers so they will use the product being advertised. Ads for cigarettes, which are clearly unhealthy for people, make them seem to be really cool and even gives a sexual appeal towards them. This portrays to viewers that it is okay to smoke cigarettes. Another one is the ads for skin care products such as Pro-Active. People do not know if the results shown on television are true or if they are a scam.

  10. Do you think ads have a good or a bad influence on your generation? Explain your reasoning.

I think advertisements have a good influence on our generation. Without advertisements, people would not be introduced to imagery and the visual aspects of products and services. It allows for the creativity of individuals to display an interest visually or by linguistic quotes by using advertisement. It does influence the opportunity for jobs as well as good/bad display. Furthermore, ads are usually a good influence but it entirely depends if the information provided by the advertisement is true or not. If it is relatively false, it would be considered a bad influence to our generation.

  11. I think some ads have a bad influence and some have a good influence. If you read magazines that are based on health they will be a good influence. Unfortunately most kids read magazines and watch TV channels that have ads that would influence kids in the wrong way. At the same time, these same channels have ads like the above the influence ads that would be a good influence. So i believe they have both good and bad influences on my generation.

  12. I believe they have a bad influence because they are telling us to buy products that are not good for us. Not only that but also thjey tell teens that they can lose weight using products that will hurt them, or gain weight by using things that can put there body in harms way. i think that some ads are useful, like breast cancer awareness that helps out with ladys and people to get the knowledge and be able to maybe help out or at least try to do something to make a difference.

  13. Most ads have a bad influence in our society because they try to get us to think what they want us to think. Also people start thinking that they have to be like the celebrities in the commercials. Some ads have had a good influence but not enough to balance out the bad.

  14. Ads have both a good and bad influence on my generation since we see about 3,000 ads per day. Most ads though are a bad influence since many of them try to manipulate us into buying their products or following their beliefs. Some "good" ads such as the Dove campaign for beauty tells woman that they are beautiful just who they are when they buy Dove products.

  15. Over all, I think that advertisements have a negative affect on teenagers outlooks. Personally, when I read more socialite magazines such as Vogue that are filed with fashion and skinny models, I feel like I need to have that or look like them (even though I could normally care less); I can only imagine how that could affect younger girls (and even boys) who are more susceptible to outside influence. However, there are many examples of good advertising such as Above the Influence although these endorse a life style, not a product.

  16. I believe that ads have a negative effect on people. It has come to the point where people have lost there own personal belief of what they like and what they don't like and base it on what ad has the most effect on the community.

  17. Our generation of ads portray more on the negative aspect. Companies don't tell you everything about what your buying, they only highlight the "good". Not knowing what lays for you on the other side. They try to make it seem like you can't live without that product, that it will make everything better like the celebrity "using" it. Or that its the cool thing to do. This will always happen though, both good and or bad.

  18. It really depends. A lot of people follow ads as if it is their job and they think that everything is explained through that one guy/lady speaking for it but some just happen to not read the small print. Such as...a cell phone ringtone ad. "Get your free ringtone at ringtone.com" But at the very bottom, it says something like 99cents per month in really small lettering. So basically my opinion on the whole matter is probably they are bad in some ways. They just have to be read between the lines.

  19. I don't think I can speak for my entire generation because I just don't have that authority. But for me, an ad isn't gonna make me rush out and buy something, unless I already have the desire to purchase said item.

I also think ads are getting more and more ridiculous as time goes on. Half the time I don't even remember the product advertised because I'm to busy laughing in confusion.

  20. I think that ads have had a negative effect on our generation. The ads put pressure on us to be something that we are not. Most ads convince kids that to be cool they need be 'beautiful'. This pushes kids to change who they are in order to be cool. Also, ads can often be misleading. The purpose of the ad is to sell the product. Often, they leave out the important facts that may diminish the appeal of the product.
However, some people don't look at ads as something to aspire for. A lot of people have the ability to distinguish between fact and fiction. For example, the weight loss commercials that are very obvious that the photos have been enhanced.
